Bullseye Marketing 3

CONSTRUCTIVE THOUGHTS
BULLSEYE MARKETING

This week we will discuss flyers, if you are a remodeler, or subcontractor one of the most cost effective ways to reduce your marketing budget is to create a good quality flyer to distribute at the local home centers. (Home Depot, Lowe's, True Value or any local lumber yard. Just place your flyers on their cars, you would be amazed at how many calls you will get to do work. Men Especially think they can do a easy project like installing their own ceiling fan, I can not tell you how many ceiling fans I have put in over the years. Also commodes, a plumber friend of mine has probably installed 1000 toilets over the years by handing out flyers at the local Lowe's.
For less than $100 you should be able to get 500 or more flyers printed. It only takes about an hour to do this on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I would be surprised if you didn't get at least 10 calls looking for a estimate and probably 3 to 5 jobs. Pretty good return on investment (ROI).
The flyers should have specific information on them, what you do for starters, maybe your logo,
your phone number, and hours of operation. It is important to have a flyer that catches the buyers attention right away. So they will read it and not just wad it up and throw it away. I have designed many different types of flyers for my own contracting business, most were very successful and made a huge impact on my profits.

Next week we will discuss door hangers and magnets.

Constructive Thoughts 5/09/2015

How many of you started your business to work 70+ hours a week? If you were like me when I first got started I thought I would work 40 to 50 hours a week and that would be it. I remember sitting in my office one night at 11:30pm knowing I had to be back up at 4:30am to go and pull wire with one of the crews because we were shorthanded and I didn’t want to hire another person. Thought I was saving money. What a joke that was no one was running my business or meeting new contacts because I the owner was pulling wire.

Well today Toolbelt Trainers LLC is going to share secret #2 of the Bullseye Marketing series, networking. I do not mean BNI’s or the hundreds of other paid networking events that are out there. If you are going to pay for networking you really have to calculate your ROI (Return On Investment), not just the cost of the event or weekly meeting but your time also. Could you be somewhere else making money, giving an estimate, working on an advertising flyer, writing personal thank you notes to pass clients and so on. If you are charging $75 an hour for your time plus the cost of the event lets just say $200 if you have a 10% profit margin (Yeah Right unless you are using Contractor Academy Coaching) you would need to get at least one $2000 job every week from your BNI to make it worthwhile. Are you?

I will say that one of the best places I ever networked was the Chamber of Commerce, when my contracting company was in business it received our largest maintenance contract ever from one of these events. While cooking hamburgers with the maintenance director of a large corporation he and I got to discussing duck hunting and before you know it my company had 20 guys working in that facility.

Social networking is a good thing also, but remember to limit your alcohol intake and never tell jokes or stories you couldn’t tell in church.
Another important thing be real and relax, at these events I seldom carry business cards if the person wants my number I go to the car and get them one.  A good example of this on a fishing trip to Wisconsin one year while tent camping the people camping next to me was a landscaper, we got to talking and know each other a little bit, and said to call him when I returned home so I did and he became a client. He was looking to sell his business and was kinda letting it die. So I convinced him the more money his company made the more it could be sold for. Toolbelt Trainers LLC helped him increase sales find a manager and reduce his hours while increasing his profit. Instead of selling for nothing now he takes several trips a year and still has a good salary in a few years he will sell the company to the manager for a price they have already decided on. Win-Win-Win!!

My favorite thing to do is meet new people, so it is easy for me to network, but that is not the case for everyone. Remember to keep it short if you go to a large networking event, about 90 to 120 seconds listen to their elevator speech then give your elevator speech and move on. You purpose is to talk to as many people as you can while you are there. If you are interested in talking more with them tell them you will email or call and set an appointment. I recommend that you never go to an event with less than 50 people. Keep your word if you want to talk to someone more send an email and do a 1 2 1 with them.

Thank you for reading and remember to keep a positive attitude if you are struggling it will get better when you decide to make a difference.

Constructive Thoughts Bullseye Marketing 2

Bullseye Marketing

This week we are going to discuss Craigslist as part of a great marketing system to increase profits and reduce cost. CL is also a good way to find and hire great employees. 2 of the best things about CL is to run ads offering services on CL is free, there is never a charge to run a service ad only ads for employment. The second thing that makes CL attractive is that every month 50 million people look to CL to find everything from a plumber to a good used boat.

It's quite simple to use CL and there are some tricks to make your ad stand out. The first thing to do is include a picture of you and your truck, this helps put the people at ease by seeing a person not just a logo on there. The next is to place 1 or 2 pictures of your completed work on there, this lets people see your professionalism right away. I currently have several clients who gross income is over $1million and this is their favorite way to advertise. Toolbelt Trainers LLC wrote their ads for them to include what people are looking for. One of my past clients (a carpenter) still uses the ad Toolbelt Trainers LLC wrote for him 2 years ago. Last year with him and one helper he cleared $125K profit not bad considering his only advertising is the patented Bullseye Marketing system and he only works 10 months a year.

Here are 2 other hints to increase a favorable response with you CL ads.
1. Update you ad every morning and right after lunch.
2. Run multiple ads for the same service.

2 contractors who I have worked with in the past have used only this part of Bullseye Marketing and do no other type of advertising at all. Imagine making $750k a year gross and not paying for a penny in advertising??? It happens everyday and I can show you how.

Constructive Thoughts

CONSTRUCTIVE THOUGHTS

This week I have read several books on marketing and guess what for a small to medium sized company the plans and approaches are impractical. These books deal with conventional marketing, and to me that is the shotgun approach and a waste of money. Why not just target the clients who want to buy what you sell?  A past client of mine keeps asking my opinion of advertising at a large public place by setting up his product where there is close to a million travelers go through each year. My advice bad idea, creating a good snail mail campaign and doing some other things is a much better way to invest his money and will give him a much higher ROI(return on investment). The idea of spending up to $1500 a month per advertising campaign just doesn't make sense to me when there are so many low cost and free ways to market your businesses directly to your customers. Another great way to market to past and future companies is to send the a monthly newsletter, but it had better contain some valuable information not just drone on about your hobbies or the companies current projects. Including some pictures of current projects is ok but again it is not about tooting your own horn but instead about informing you customers about the advantages of your product or service compared to you competitors.
And don't tell me we give superior service, do great work and the like. Because no company says they do crappy work and it will take you a month to get them back to finish the product.

Every week for the next 9 weeks I will be sharing one of our proven ideas with you to help you reduce your marketing and advertising cost and make more profit by going directly to the customers who want to buy from you..

Have a great week
